I read, and am interested in, the study by Steinmann, et al., (2021) which has been recently published in the journal. They established the recommendations for the nursing management of cancer therapy-induced mucositis (1).
They didn’t state which guideline development or the adaptation or adoption approaches were used. Guideline developers can;: 1. Adopt the extant recommendations, 2. Adapt the extant recommendation for local context., 3. Develop new recommendations (2). Did they apply the modified Delphi technique for achieving consensus?
Since, so far, no specific guideline for the management of mucositis due to chemotherapy has been published but there isare related medical clinical practice guidelines (CPGs). The authors tried to develop new recommendations in this area. Therefore, the Researchersresearchers should first review the literature and extant related clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) and extract the recommendations from the literature review and then present these recommendations in the panel. Obviously, in the panel, recommendations will be added by the participants according to experience, or the existing recommendations will be modified or omitted.
